Making of Javantea's Fate 146

Ya, that piece of paper is full of greek symbols and math beyond first year calculus. That's what I gotta think about tonight instead of JF. If you want to hear me rant and rave, try yesterday's rant. I'd also like to explain the reason why last night had no JF is that first my computer wouldn't upload and then it wouldn't connect to the internet. So Just five minutes ago I put that up and now this one on top of it. In case you're interested, I am going to boot MSN as soon as I ditch their shitty 12 month contract. NEVER ever go with MSN! Not pain of death nor pain of 56k should make you even think about MSN broadband. I say, find a good local DSL using DSLReports.com or find a good local 56k.

Making of Javantea's Fate 144

Greets, tonight is just a bit of propaganda by me for you. If you buy stuff at The Gap, Old Navy, Anchor Blue, etc you are pillars of slavery. I'm not just talking the enslavement of young boys, girls, and women in Taiwan, the Phillipines, Indonesia, Thailand, or Mexico (check the tags of your clothes for Made in mark). I'm talking about your own enslavement. Those close you wear cost you money that you make at your job right? Of course. Clothes made by people who take pride in their work last longer and do not grow out of fashion as fast as those Gap pieces of dung. I would be surprised if less than half the clothes that the Gap sells have some type of toxic waste on them. I'm no hypocrite. Since 1998, I've purchased one item that was made by slave labor (a pair of shoes). That's four years of quality clothes and I've never felt better about it. I take more esteem in my appearance than I used to and I look cooler even wearing used clothes that I bought for a buck or free. I bought four pairs of pants from The General Store made by Key and Dickeys. Take a look and you'll see what I'm talking about. In two years, my American Made pants have not ripped through all the tortures that I've put them through, while my used slave-made Khakis are falling to pieces. Good riddens, I say. My Dickies Khakis kick arse and I can feel the worker's conviction that put together such a quality garment. My American Made flannels are always in fashion here in Seattle. L.L. Bean used to make sweet flannels Made in USA, but you'll have to double-check to see if they still do. The slave-made shoes that I bought two years ago are falling apart as expected. My next pair of shoes will be American Made. I have a pair of boots that are American Made that are the highest quality, but urban Seattle is hardly the place for such high-quality boots. But if I ever need boots (Like Jav will in Scene 7), I have a great pair. What will I do for Skateboarding shoes? There are some great Skateboarding Shoes made in Canada, the UK, and possibly the US. I just have to find them. Why must I go to great lengths for clothing? I have certain standards for clothes that I buy. I don't wear the Emperor's Clothes, you see. And if I did, I would just say that I'm boycotting clothing. Boycotting is nothing new. I bet that you boycott eating pig heels, too. The Gap = Pig heels. I say, Just Boycott It!

Making of Javantea's Fate 143

No JF tonight. Today was A20, 75,000 protestors showed up in Washington DC. A few thousand showed up in Seattle including myself. Below is my review of it. Props to everyone who showed except for the cops, who only came to brutalize innocent peaceful protestors who are protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. We were also protected by the Second Amendment, but it seems that protestors dislike violent protest these days. Some might criticize us for beating around the bush. I say that we are obligated to be pacifist ourselves in order to expect our nation to turn away from war.

Making of Javantea's Fate 141

Who gives you over forty megabytes of pictures, 125 kilobytes of which was uploaded today? Not very many people, but this friend of yours does. I've been thinking up new projects lately. I'm thinking that some of them would be super-fun. But JF is still my number one priority as you see here. Here is DAX aka DA8 aka rip-off of FFX's Titus. He's hitting the dust. Making good-looking death anims (or severe wounding anims) is an art in itself. Whether shot, blown up, punched, kicked, stabbed, or eaten alive by a cougar, a person must fall 1) due to gravity, 2) according to the solidity of bones, and 3) according to the force that wounds the person. For example, an off balance person hit by a stray forearm is going to topple over backwards, but since they are still conscious, their arms will flap like a bird. They will bend at the knees if their foot is touching the ground; if their foot is in the air already, it will fly upwards from the hip. When they hit the ground, they won't stay that way. First off, they won't all hit at once; the first body part to hit will contort and fly back upwards a bit. Then when the rest hits the ground, if the person is still conscious (possible, yet unlikely) they'll think before they get up. That means that they'll rest a second. Their muscles flex and then relax - it's a conditioned reflex for any fighter, really. But if they're unconscious, they'll go completely limp. That's where a bunch of the damage comes in, they go unconscious on the first hit and then each body part hits the ground moving at a velocity of t * 9.8 m/s^2 where t is the time it takes to get to the ground from where they start, which can be calculated using 0=height -0.5 * 9.8 m/s^2 * t^2. They end up moving at a good clip. If the person's head can be thought of as a sphere being dropped from 6.6 feet, then time = 0.64 seconds and then velocity = 6.3 m/s which is painful. (6.3 m/s) * (3.3 feet/meter) * (1/5280 miles/feet) *(3600 seconds/hour) = 14 miles per hour. A car wreck at 14 miles per hour isn't bad, but a bike wreck minus helmet is very painful. I know from experience. If you really don't trust me, fall backwards onto your bedroom floor. I bet 10:1 that you will suffer major pain. But of course, someone who is hit, does not fall like a bowling ball. They accelerate in an funky two-segment arc since their feet go over and their knees bend. So you see, it's kinda complex. It'd be nice if I had a physics modeller, but I haven't made one yet. I'm working on it. Give me a bit of time. One thing that this picture lacks is good emotion. After being hit brutally by Jav, this guy should be reeling in pain. Instead, he has no emotion. I'm working on it, give me time. I'm thinking of a system to allow me to control the eyes and eyebrows, but it's a few models away. Remember that one I'm working on, the reality guy has eyes, but they aren't controllable yet. The face is kinda complex. The mouth needs two bones, the eyes need two each. That makes a lot of bones for such a small place. It's hard to work with bones that are bunched together. But I'll figure it out. My lesson to you is not passive. Your homework assignment is to to mess around with your model and save one animation today that looks something like a person going from vertical to horizontal on a non-linear path. ^_^
